The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 But then We never send the angels down save with the purpose (of enforcing their doom), after which they will not be given more respite. 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15
