The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 So We make it enter the hearts of the sinners. 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
