The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No people can outstrip the term for its destruction nor can it delay it. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
