The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 and no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 They would not believe in it (the Quran), and already the example of (Allah's punishment of) the ancients (who disbelieved) has gone forth. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched. 15
