۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 And never did We destroy a town but it had a term made known. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 Even then they would say, “Our sights have been hypnotised – in fact, a magic spell has been cast upon us.” 15
