The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
