The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 and even if We opened to them a door from heaven, and they began ascending through it, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
