The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of a clear Book, the Quran. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 It is We who sent down the Koran, and We watch over it. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old. 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
