The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 No people can outstrip the term for its destruction nor can it delay it. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
