The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 no people can forestall their doom, nor can they delay it. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
