The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 It is We who sent down the Koran, and We watch over it. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
