The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And yet, they [who deny the truth] say: "O thou unto whom this reminder has [allegedly] been bestowed from on high: verily, thou art mad! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Even so we make a way for it in the hearts of the culprits. 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
