The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play so they will shortly come to know. 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
