The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
