The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Book and the glorious Quran. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
