The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 They say: "O you to whom the Admonition has been revealed, you are surely crazed. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
