The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 no people can forestall their doom, nor can they delay it. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 And whenever a Messenger came to them, they never failed to mock him. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
