Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 and the jinn created We before of fire flaming. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 save Iblis; he refused to be among those bowing. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 (Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape." 33 [Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled. 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised. 36 He said, "You are granted respite 37 for an appointed time." 38 (satan) said: 'My Lord, for Your perverting me, I shall make (matters) in the earth seem most fair to them and I shall pervert all, 39 Except the chosen ones among Your creatures." 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate there shall be a separate party of them. 44
