Surely We created man of a clay of mud moulded, 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together: 30 But Satan did not; he refused to join those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 Said He, 'Then go thou forth hence; thou art accursed. 34 and will be subjected to condemnation until the Day of Judgment." 35 He said: my Lord! respite me then till the Day whereon they will be raised up. 36 Allah said: "For sure you are granted respite 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 Verily as for My bondmen, no authority shalt thou have over them, except the erring one who follow thee. 42 And indeed hell is the promise for all of them. 43 It has seven gates; for each gate is a portion assigned from them. 44
