Surely We created man of a clay of mud moulded, 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 But when your Lord said to the angels: "I am verily going to create a human being from fermented clay dried tingling hard; 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 But Satan did not; he refused to join those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He said it was not for me that I should prostrate myself unto a human being whom Thou hast created from ringing clay of loam moulded. 33 Said He: "Go forth, then, from this [angelic state]: for, behold, thou art [henceforth] accursed, 34 And surely on you is curse until the day of judgment. 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 The Lord said, "Your request is granted 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 He said: My Lord! because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 And verily Hell is the place promised unto them all. 43 It has seven gates, and through each gate a portion of them belong. 44
