We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, bow before him in homage;" 29 So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, 30 Except Iblis (Satan), - he refused to be among the prostrators. 31 Said He, 'What ails thee, Iblis, that thou art not among those bowing?' 32 Iblis replied, "I did not want to prostrate before a human being whom You have created out of mud-moulded clay". 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 He said: 'My Lord, reprieve me till the Day they are raised' 36 [Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved 37 Till the Day of the Time known. 38 "O my Lord," he said, "since You have led me into error I'll beguile them with the pleasures of the world and lead them astray, 39 Except, among them, Your chosen servants." 40 Said He: "This is, with Me, a straight way: 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
