Al-Hijjr 3 of 6
And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 When your Lord said to the angels, "I will create the human being out of pure mud-moulded clay. 28 When I have formed him and breathed My spirit into him, fall down in prostration before him," 29 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 Said Allah, “O Iblis! What happened to you that you stayed apart from those who prostrated?” 32 He replied, "I am not one to prostrate myself to a man whom You have created out of a clay of moulded mud." 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 36 He said, "You are granted respite 37 Till the Day of the Time known. 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 over My servants thou shalt have no authority, except those that follow thee, 42 being perverse; Gehenna shall be their promised land all together. 43 It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion. 44

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
