We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 while We had brought the jinn into being before out of blazing fire. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 Then the angels bowed themselves all together, 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 The Lord inquired: "Iblis! What is the matter with you that you did not join those who prostrated?" 32 He replied, "I am not one to prostrate myself to a man whom You have created out of a clay of moulded mud." 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 Iblis said: "My Lord! Grant me respite till the Day when they will be resurrected." 36 Answered He: "Verily, so be it: thou shalt be among those who are granted respite 37 until the day of a known time." 38 [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all 39 except for Your chosen servants." 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 And surely Hell is the promised place of them all: 43 It has seven gates; for each gate is a portion assigned from them. 44
