We created mankind from clay, molded from mud, 26 and the jinn created We before of fire flaming. 27 When your Lord said to the angels, "I will create the human being out of pure mud-moulded clay. 28 And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, bow before him in homage;" 29 All the angels prostrated themselves, 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 (Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape." 33 God told him, "Get out of the garden; you are rejected 34 A curse shall be on you till the Day of Recompense' 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 Until the Day of the time well-known." 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 verily, thou shalt have no power over My creatures - unless it be such as are [already] lost in grievous error and follow thee [of their own will]: 42 and for all such, behold, hell is the promised goal. 43 with seven gates leading into it, each gate receiving its allotted share of sinners. 44
