We created mankind from clay, molded from mud, 26 And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire. 27 And recall when your Lord said to the angels, “I will create man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud.” 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 Therefore all the angels, each and every one of them, fell prostrate. 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 Till the Day of the Time known. 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 "It (Hell) has seven gates, for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
