AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 And the jinn, We had created them afore of the fire of the scroching wind. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together 30 save Iblis; he refused to be among those bowing. 31 He said: O Iblis! what excuse have you that you are not with those who make obeisance? 32 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." 33 (Allah) said: 'Begone, you are accursed! 34 “And indeed you are accursed till the Day of Judgement.” 35 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised." 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 Until the Day of the time well-known." 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 Except, among them, Your chosen servants." 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 "Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghawin (Mushrikun and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers, etc.). 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
