And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 26 And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, bow before him in homage;" 29 then the angels all prostrated themselves together. 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 God asked Iblis, "What made you not join the others in prostration?" 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised. 36 Said Allah, “You are of those given respite.” 37 “Till the Day of a well-known time.” 38 [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all 39 Save such of them as are Thy perfectly devoted slaves. 40 Allah said: "Here is the path that leads straight to Me. 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 It has seven gates, and through each gate a portion of them belong. 44
