Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 and the jinn We had created before from flaming fire. 27 And when thy Lord said to the angels, 'See, I am creating a mortal of a clay of mud moulded. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together: 30 Except Iblis (Satan), - he refused to be among the prostrators. 31 Said Allah, “O Iblis! What happened to you that you stayed apart from those who prostrated?” 32 He replied, "I am not one to prostrate myself to a man whom You have created out of a clay of moulded mud." 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 He said: 'My Lord, reprieve me till the Day they are raised' 36 He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 Save such of them as are Thy perfectly devoted slaves. 40 [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all! 43 To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
