Surely We brought man into being out of dry ringing clay which was wrought from black mud, 26 while We had brought the jinn into being before out of blazing fire. 27 And recall what time thy Lord said unto the angels: verily I am about to create a man from ringing clay of loam moulded. 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 All the angels prostrated before Adam 30 But Satan did not; he refused to join those who prostrated themselves. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,- 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 Allah said: "Here is the path that leads straight to Me. 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 with seven gates leading into it, each gate receiving its allotted share of sinners. 44
