Surely We created man of a clay of mud moulded, 26 As We fashioned jinns before from intense radiated heat. 27 Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 Then the angels bowed themselves all together, 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." 33 God told him, "Get out of the garden; you are rejected 34 Condemned till the day of Doom!" 35 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised." 36 He said, "You are granted respite 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 except for Your chosen servants." 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 over My worshipers you have no authority, except the perverse that follow you. 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
