So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 he said: "Behold, you are people unknown [here]!" 62 'No' they replied: 'We bring you (news) of that concerning which they were doubting. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 And We communicated to him the decree that by the morning those people will be totally destroyed. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said: Surely these are my guests, therefore do not disgrace me, 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)." 71 Verily, by your life (O Muhammad SAW), in their wild intoxication, they were wandering blindly. 72 Therefore the scream overcame them at sunrise. 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 Surely! Therein is indeed a sign for the believers. 77 The dwellers of the Wood (near Midian) were also wicked. 78 We therefore took revenge from them; and indeed both these townships are situated on an open road. 79
