At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 he said to them: 'I do not know you' 62 They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt. 63 We have come to you for a genuine purpose and We are true in what we say. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning. 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 rushed towards the house of Lot. Lot said to them, "These are my guests. Do not disgrace me. 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 Verily, by your life (O Muhammad SAW), in their wild intoxication, they were wandering blindly. 72 So the rumbling overtook them (while) entering upon the time of sunrise; 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
