When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They said: nay! we have come to thee with that whereof they have been dubitating. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came, rejoicing at the news (of new arrivals). 67 He said: verily these are my guests, so disgrace me not. 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They replied: 'Have we not forbidden you (the people of) the worlds' 70 He said, 'These are my daughters, if you would be doing.' 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 We laid it (the city) upside down and rained stones of baked clay upon them. 74 Indeed in that are signs for those who discern. 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 Verily, herein lies a message indeed for all who believe [in God]. 77 The dwellers of the Wood (near Midian) were also wicked. 78 So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
