Al-Hijjr 5 of 6
When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 He said, “You are an unfamiliar people.” 62 They said: nay! we have come to thee with that whereof they have been dubitating. 63 We have come to you for a genuine purpose and We are true in what we say. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 The people of the city came to him rejoicing. 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 surely it is on a way yet remaining; 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway. 79

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
