When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said, "No, but we bring you news about what they disputed, 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 And We communicated to him the decree that by the morning those people will be totally destroyed. 66 The people of the city came to him rejoicing. 67 and he told them, "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 Have fear of God and do not humiliate me". 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 [Lout (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)." 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning, 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 Herein are really signs for those who discern. 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Verily there is a Sign in this for the believers. 77 AND THE DWELLERS of the wooded dales [of Madyan, too,] were inveterate evildoers, 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
