AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing, 63 And we have come to you with the truth, and we are most surely truthful. 64 Leave the town with your family sometime during the night. Walk behind them and let no one turn around. Proceed as you are commanded." 65 And We decreed for him that commandment, that the last remnant of those should be cut off in the morning. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They replied: 'Have we not forbidden you (the people of) the worlds' 70 He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)." 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 Herein are really signs for those who discern. 75 This lies on a road that still survives. 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 On them, too, We took vengeance, and they are both on a clear roadway. 79
