When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 He said: "You are people I do not know." 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 We have come to you for a genuine purpose and We are true in what we say. 64 So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded. 65 And We revealed to him this decree, that the roots of these shall be cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said, “These are my guests – do not dishonour me.” 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 By your life O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) – they are indeed straying in their intoxication. 72 So the rumbling overtook them (while) entering upon the time of sunrise; 73 Thus did We turn it upside down, and rained down upon them stones of what had been decreed. 74 Surely in that are signs for such as mark; 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 Verily there is a Sign in this for the believers. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 So we took vengeance on them; and lo! they both are on a high-road plain to see. 79
