AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 He said, “You are an unfamiliar people.” 62 They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing, 63 "And we have brought to you the truth (the news of the destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth. 64 Depart with your family in a part of the night and walk behind them and let none of you turn round. Go to a place where you are commanded' 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And there came the people of the city rejoicing 67 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They said: Have we not forbidden you from (other) people? 70 [Lot] said: "[Take instead] these daughters of mine, if you must do [whatever you intend to do]!" 71 By your life! In their drunkenness they were truly blind. 72 So they were seized by the mighty blast at break of day; 73 And We turned the township upside down and rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah). 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
