So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown." 62 They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing, 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 We informed him that the unbelievers would be utterly destroyed. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 Said Lot: "These are my guests; do not put me to shame, 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They replied, "Did we not forbid you to bring anyone to your house?" 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 An explosion struck them at sunrise. 73 and We turned it uppermost nethermost and rained on it stones of baked clay. 74 Surely, in that there are signs for those who contemplate. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 We afflicted them with punishment. Both people had clear (divine) authority among them. 79
