So when the envoys came to the household of Lot, 61 He said: "You are people I do not know." 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 And we have come to you with the truth, and we are most surely truthful. 64 Leave the town with your family sometime during the night. Walk behind them and let no one turn around. Proceed as you are commanded." 65 And We informed him the decision of this command, that at morning the root of the disbelievers would be cut off. 66 And there came the people of the city rejoicing 67 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. 68 but be conscious of God and disgrace me not!" 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 Therefore the scream overcame them at sunrise. 73 And We turned the city upside down, and rained on them stones of hardened lava. 74 Herein are really signs for those who discern. 75 Indeed, it is on a way which still exists. 76 Verily there is a Sign in this for the believers. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 So We punished them too. They are both situated by the highway, clearly visible. 79
