AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: "Nay, we have brought to you that concerning which they have been in doubt. 63 And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful. 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not: 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They said; Have we not forbidden you from (entertaining) anyone? 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for those who can read the signs: 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 Indeed there is a portent in this for those who believe. 77 AND THE DWELLERS of the wooded dales [of Madyan, too,] were inveterate evildoers, 78 So, We took vengeance on them. They are both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
