At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful. 64 Depart with your family in a part of the night and walk behind them and let none of you turn round. Go to a place where you are commanded' 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the town came rejoicing. 67 He said: verily these are my guests, so disgrace me not. 68 "And fear Allah and disgrace me not." 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 [Lout (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)." 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 So they were seized by the mighty blast at break of day; 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for those who can read the signs: 75 And indeed that township is upon a road still in use. 76 Verily there is a Sign in this for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the thicket also were most surely unjust. 78 So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
