And when the envoys came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: "You are people I do not know." 62 They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing, 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 Leave the town with your family sometime during the night. Walk behind them and let no one turn around. Proceed as you are commanded." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 He said: Surely these are my guests, therefore do not disgrace me, 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 He said: these are my daughters, if act ye must. 71 Verily by your life they were utterly confused in their (lustful) drunkenness. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 And We turned the city upside down, and rained on them stones of hardened lava. 74 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah). 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Most surely there is a sign in this for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the thicket also were most surely unjust. 78 So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
