And when the messengers came unto the family of Lot, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 And the people of the town came rejoicing. 67 and he told them, "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 By your life! In their drunkenness they were truly blind. 72 and the Cry seized them at the sunrise, 73 and turned the land upside down, and rained down stones of baked clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 And indeed that township is upon a road still in use. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
