The people of Al-Hijr denied Our apostles; 80 We sent them Our Signs, but they persisted in turning away from them. 81 notwithstanding that they had been wont [to enjoy Our blessings and] to hew out dwellings from the mountains, [wherein they could live] in security 82 So the scream overcame them at morning. 83 And all that which they used to earn availed them not. 84 We have created the heavens and the earth and all that is between the two in accordance with the requirements of truth and wisdom. The Hour is surely coming. So overlook [their faults] with gracious forgiveness. 85 Surely your Lord is the Creator of all things, the Knowing. 86 And certainly We have given you seven of the oft-repeated (verses) and the grand Quran. 87 So covet not things We have bestowed on a portion of them to enjoy, and do not grieve for them, and protect those who believe; 88 And proclaim, “Indeed I, yes I, am the clear Herald of Warning.” 89 Even as We sent down on the dividers 90 Those who broke the Word of Allah into several parts. (Those who broke the Torah / Bible or changed its text – or those who called the Qur’an a fabrication / poetry.) 91 so by your Lord, We will question them all 92 about what they did. 93 Preach what you have been commanded to and stay away from the pagans. 94 We will, surely, suffice you against those who mock, 95 Who set up along with Allah another god; presently they shall know. 96 And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say. 97 But glorify your Lord with His praise, and prostrate yourself: 98 and worship thy Sustainer till death comes to thee. 99
