And certainly did the companions of Thamud deny the messengers. 80 We sent them Our Signs, but they persisted in turning away from them. 81 And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure. 82 and so the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at early morn, 83 And of no avail to them was all that they did (with such art and care)! 84 And We have not created the heaven and the earth and that which is in between them save with a purpose. And verily the Hour is surely coming; so overlook thou with a seemly overlooking, 85 Surely your Lord is the Creator of all things, the Knowing. 86 And indeed We have given you seven verses that are repeated, and the great Qur’an. 87 Do not strain your eyes towards the worldly benefits We have bestowed on some of them, nor grieve on their account. Lower your wing of mercy for the believers 88 And proclaim, “Indeed I, yes I, am the clear Herald of Warning.” 89 even as We had sent warning to those who had divided their religion into fragments; 90 and also divided the Quran believing in some parts and rejecting others. 91 Therefore, by the Lord, We will, of a surety, call them to account, 92 For that which they have been working. 93 Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists. 94 We suffice thee against the mockers, 95 who assert that there are, side by side with God, other divine powers as well: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 96 We do indeed know how thy heart is distressed at what they say. 97 So hallow thou the praise of thy Lord, and be thou of the prostrate. 98 And go on worshipping your Lord till the certainty (of death) comes upon you. 99
