And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, "The soul is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little." 85 And if We so willed, We could indeed take away whatever We have revealed unto thee, and in that [state of need] thou wouldst find none to plead in thy behalf before Us. 86 Except [We have left it with you] as a mercy from your Lord. Indeed, His favor upon you has ever been great. 87 Say: Verily, though mankind and the jinn should assemble to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like thereof though they were helpers one of another. 88 And assuredly We have variously propounded for mankind in this Qur'an every kind of similitude, yet most men have refused everything except infidelity. 89 And they say: We will by no means believe in you until you cause a fountain to gush forth from the earth for us. 90 Or thou have a garden of date-palms and grapes, and cause rivers to gush forth therein abundantly; 91 or, until you cause the sky to fall upon us in pieces, as you have claimed, or, as a surety bring Allah with the angels in front; 92 Or you have a house of gold or you ascend into the sky. And [even then], we will not believe in your ascension until you bring down to us a book we may read." Say, "Exalted is my Lord! Was I ever but a human messenger?" 93
