The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
ALL PRAISE is due to God, who has bestowed this divine writ from on high upon His servant, and has not allowed any deviousness to obscure its meaning: 1 [a divine writ] unerringly straight, meant to warn [the godless] of a severe punishment from Him, and to give unto the believers who do good works the glad tiding that theirs shall be a goodly reward 2 wherein they shall remain forever, 3 And to warn those who say, "Allah has taken a son." 4 No knowledge whatever have they of Him, and neither had their forefathers: dreadful - is this saying that comes out of their mouths, [and] nothing but falsehood do they utter! 5 But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? 6 Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth adornment for it that We may test them [as to] which of them is best in deed. 7 And most surely We will make what is on it bare ground without herbage. 8 Deemest thou that the people of the cave and the inscription were of Our signs a wonder? 9 When the youths sought refuge in the cave, they said: Our Lord! grant us mercy from Thee, and provide for us a right course in our affair. 10 Then We draw (a veil) over their ears, for a number of years, in the Cave, (so that they heard not): 11 Afterwards. We raised them up again, that We might know which of the two parties would better calculate the while they had tarried. 12
