So they twain set out till, when they were in the ship, he made a hole therein. (Moses) said: Hast thou made a hole therein to drown the folk thereof? Thou verily hast done a dreadful thing. 71 He said: Did I not tell thee that thou couldst not bear with me? 72 He said, 'Do not take me to task that I forgot, neither constrain me to do a thing too difficult.' 73 Then they proceeded: until, when they met a young man, he slew him. Moses said: "Hast thou slain an innocent person who had slain none? Truly a foul (unheard of) thing hast thou done!" 74 ۞ (Khidr) said: "Did I not tell you that you can have no patience with me?" 75 [Musa (Moses)] said: "If I ask you anything after this, keep me not in your company, you have received an excuse from me." 76 Then they both proceeded, till, when they came to the people of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused to entertain them. Then they found therein a wall about to collapse and he (Khidr) set it up straight. [Musa (Moses)] said: If you had wished, surely, you could have taken wages for it!" 77 He said: "This brings me and you to a parting of ways. Now I shall explain to you the true meaning of things about which you could not remain patient. 78 "The boat belonged to some destitute people who were using it as a means of their living in the sea. The king had imposed a certain amount of tax on every undamaged boat. I damaged it so that they would not have to pay the tax. 79 “And in respect of the boy – his parents were Muslims and we feared that he may incite them to rebellion and disbelief.” 80 so we desired that their Lord should give to them in exchange one better than he in purity, and nearer in tenderness. 81 As for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and under it there was a treasure that belonged to them. Their father was a righteous man and your Lord intended that they should come of age and then bring forth their treasure as a mercy from your Lord; I did not do this of my own bidding. This is the true meaning of things with which you could not keep your patience." 82
