(O Muhammad), they ask you about Dhu al-Qarnayn. Say: "I will give you an account of him." 83 Indeed We established him upon the earth, and We gave him to everything a way. 84 and so he chose the right means [in whatever he did]. 85 Until when he reached the place where the sun set, he found it going down into a black sea, and found by it a people. We said: O Zulqarnain! either give them a chastisement or do them a benefit. 86 He said: "We will chastise him who does wrong, whereafter he will be returned to his Lord and He will chastise him grievously. 87 but whoever believes and does good works shall have a good reward and We shall facilitate his matter by Our command." 88 He travelled again 89 To the extent that when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising upon a nation for which We had not kept any shelter from it. 90 Thus indeed it was. We had full knowledge of him. 91 Thereafter he followed a way. 92 until, when he reached between the two barriers, he found this side of them a people scarcely able to understand speech. 93 'ThulKarnain' they said, 'Look, Gog and Magog are corrupting the earth. Build for us a barrier between us and them, and we will pay you a tribute' 94 He answered: "Whatever my Lord has granted me is good enough. But help me with your labour and I will erect a rampart between you and them. 95 Bring me blocks of iron; until when he had filled up the space between the two mountain sides, he said: Blow, until when he had made it (as) fire, he said: Bring me molten brass which I may pour over it. 96 Thus were they made powerless to scale it or to dig through it. 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord cometh to pass, He will lay it low, for the promise of my Lord is true. 98 ۞ On that day We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another: the trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together. 99 On that Day We shall lay Hell bare before those who deny the truth, 100 They whose eyes were under a cover from My reminder and they could not even hear. 101
